Operating Framework


MJUMITA works under the supervision of its steering committee comprised of 5 zonal representatives Eastern zone Morogoro, Dar-es-salaam, pwani and Zanzibar ,Northen zone Kilimanjaro and Tanga; southern zone, Lindi Ruvuma na Mtwara; central zone Dodoma, Singida, manyara, and Arusha and southern Island zone Iringa, mbeya and Rukwa. Up to now MJUMITA covers 16 regions in Tanzania whereby there are more than 70 CBOs working under it.

Furthermore, Annual General Meeting being the greatest organ/tool in arriving at the majority and reasonable decision making. Up to now MJUMITA has done 7 AGMs in which it has improve various Government Documents and solve big problems in the forest sector. It is through MJUMITA AGM that has the access to accomplish its critical discussions and reach a significant solution.

According to MJUMITAs constitution, steering committee members sit for quarterly meetings each year cooperating with EMPAFORM officials in discussing various issues pertaining MJUMITA to other forest stakeholders. MJUMITA CBOs are also composed by various user groups involving in various activities such as beekeeping, drama etc. Each CBO is estimated to have more than two user groups.


Activities


MJUMITA major areas of activity through EMPAFORM programme include access to information, advocacy, organizational strengthening, networking at local, national and regional levels, and demand-driven technical assistance. The programme's focus on CBOs will also give the rural poor, and particularly women and other marginalized groups, a stronger voice in policy development at national level. By influencing the underlying power relationships within communities, and between communities and the State, the programme will promote good governance both within and beyond the forest sector.

The specific MJUMITA activities include; beekeeping at AZIMIO,HIMAVIKIRU and STETIANA Networks, establishing tree nursery for selling this include all the Networks; fishponds at ILONDO and HIMAVIKIRU, chopping firewood for sell this include all the Networks; mushroom and Butterfly projects in the northern zone Networks; Eco tourism at MAZUMBAI Network etc. All these activities supports the lives of MJUMITA CBOs, they also sharpens their intellectual capacities by being creative in improving standard of living.

Forest Justice in Tanzania


MJUMITA is a partner in the Forest Justice in Tanzania Initiative. This is partnership initiative between MJUMITA and the Tanzania Forest Conservation Group. Forest Justice in Tanzania aims to promote good governance and improved accountability in the forestry sector in Tanzania by contributing to more effective and sustained citizen demand for improved forest management and governance; and by encouraging Government leaders at all levels to support effective forest management. As part of this initiative MJUMITA is promoting improved governance at community and local government level through two strategies: monitoring forest governance and supporting more effective enforcement. MJUMITA has established zonal offices in Korogwe, Morogoro and Kilwa serving the Northern, Eastern and Southern zones. MJUMITA Zonal Coordinators are working closely with local community forestry networks in these zones to build their capacity to promote improved forest governance. The Forest Justice in Tanzania initiative is financed through the DfID-funded Accountability in Tanzania initiative.
